Budget starting
Having a plan for your spending is called budgeting and the Community Advice Service can help you get started.
Everyone needs a system of money managing - even Borough Councils and Governments. A well-planned system should help you to live happily on what money you have coming in. Budgeting is a family affair. A family grows closer together \yhen they d i s c u s s money matters as a group. Both Mum and Dad can learn from each other in handling the business of budgeting for their household. Children involved in money managing discussions and decisions will learn how to handle their own money much earlier in life. Members of a family or flat group are more sensible in what they ask for if they have been involved i n deciding on a budget-
ing system and working it out. -Making a budget plan and sticking to it stops arguments about what should be bought and guards against sudden unplanned spending that will upset things later on. No one system fits everyone, - each person or group of people must work out a budgeting system which suits them. Keep a simple written record of your plan and all the money paid out. This will enable you t o change your system if your needs change. If you need help to get started call on the Community Advice Service at 40 Queen Street, Raetihi for helpful pamphlets on the Management of Money. Or ask for more personal help from the Budgeting Coordinators. They are there to help you.
