Councillor calls for WCAC support
Rangitikei councillor Ashley Strachan has asked the Waiouru Community Advisory Council for support for the Waiouru subdivision scheme. "I believe we should take the bull by the horns and do something to promote the sections," Mr Strachan told the committee at their last meeting. Mr Strachan said that he had spoken t o Waimarino Mayor Garrick Workman who had said that anything in the way of development the county had started they (the Ru-
apehu District Council) would "pick up". Committee chairman Colonel Brett Bestic said the committee could show their enthusiasm for the project but that they wouldn't be able to give any guarantee for it. Cr Strachan also asked the committee whether other Waiouru sections owned by the army were to come up for sale. He suggested that the county would be in an a w k w a r d position if it were to develop its sections then release them onto the market at, s a y
$15,000 then have other sections put up for sale at $5000 or $6000. Col Bestic said he understood the council's concern. He said that sort of information was not going to be available for several
years. Colonel Bestic asked why all the sections needed to be developed, to which Mr Strachan replied that the sewerage had to be extended to the sections and that to make the subdivision cost
effective most of the sections would have to be developed. "We can certainly write expressing our support for the concept," said Col Bestic. Mr Strachan said that could help the county make its decision.
