Subdivision project 'still alive'
Rangitikei Councillor Ashley Strachan says that the Waiouru subdivision project is still alive. The county decided at their last meeting that the project should be put on hold, but Mr Strachan says if he can get 15 people to give their deposits for sections by the end o f February, the subdivision can still b e started this summer. "Accommodation is at a premium i n Waiouru," said Mr Strachan. "If we can get Waiouru people behind the project and
promote it, then it can work." He said the main problem with the subdivision at the moment is the uncertainty caused by the current local government amalgamation. "We need a categorical assurance from the Ruapehu District that the subdivision will proceed," said Mr Strachan. He said that was not possible at present because the district's transition committee did not yet have any legal status, though he had been told by the committee that the new
council would carry on with the project. "I think it will be a most attractive subdivision," said Mr Strachan. He said it will include all services,
underground with kerb and channeling, footpaths and sealed road with the area contoured and storm water drainage. Turn page 2
Subdivision alive
From page 1 The biggest task in forming the subdivi - sion, said Mr Strachan would be putting in the culverts to drain the area. He said some lack of interest could be because people aren't aware of its location. The plan is for it to be behind the Mobil Service Station, with access from the southern end of Andrews Drive. He said six deposits had been received for sections, prior to the county's decision to put the scheme on
hold, and that a further three or four sections were "hanging in the balance".
