Raetihi speaker wins ITC competition

Ruapehu I.T.C. members recently held the Club's Prepared Speech Contest. The Judges were Dorothy Scarrow and Roberta Brebner. The eight contestants were each given three titles a fortnight before the contest and had t o choose and prepare a speech between five and eight minutes i n length. They all managed to keep within the time allowed so there were no disqualifications. The judges com-

mented on the high standard achieved and gave very useful evaluations for each speaker. The placings were: lst Keitha Journeaux "Poetry," 2nd Margaret Cornwall "Noses," 3rd equal Margaret Horn "Because it's there," and Leigh Berry. The contestants and their subjects were: Francie Geraghty - "The only thing we have to fear, is fear" and her other subjects "Supermarkets" and "Heads I win; Tails you

lose", Margaret Horn - "Sheep" and "We are not amused", Keitha Journeaux - "Murphy's Law" and "Be Prepared. Is it just for Scouts," Gretcher Littlewood - "Youth" This Affluent Society and Raetihi on a Friday Night." Margaret Cornwall "A vast wasteland" and "Suffer the Children," Valma Littlewood "When the winds of change are blowing some people will build windbreaks, others will build windmills," "The Establishment" and "All

dressed up and nowhere to go." Leigh Berry - "Feet," "What the Butler saw" and "Life is so unfair." Fay Eves - "Our developing language," "A funny thing happened to me on the way to" and "Computers."

i Ann Greenwood was the speech contest chairman and in the audience was Beverley Romanes, I.T.C. Council 8 President. Beverley was paying the Club a social visit and says she thoroughly

enjoyed the speeches. Beverley also helped judge the Ohakune Primary School speech contest while she was here. As winner of the Club contest Keitha will now go on to the Council 8 speech final

early next year. Thanks to Keitha's generosity the Club has a Trophy for the Prepared Speech Contest. It was good to see it presented to Keitha as the 3rd winner of the Journeaux Tro-
