TANGIWAI DISASTER MONUMENT SUGGESTED

A memorial to replace the small wooden cross at the site of the 1953 Tangiwai disaster has been suggested. A national radio programme will broadcast a half-hour programme at Christmas time on the train disaster, which happened on Christmas Eve. Survivors and rescuers who will be interviewcd on the programme will be asked to comment on ercction of a monument.
