Deputy made Ruapehu College Principal
Ruapehu College's acting principal Harry Cast has been given the job permanently.
His successful selection came after a day of interviews Saturday October 30 and Board of Governors chairperson Bronwyn Meyer
announced his appointment at a school assembly on Monday October 31. Mr Cast says he is pleased with the sup-
port the pupils, staff and community have shown. "This school is a good one and my job is to continue its development and to see it continues to get good results," said Mr Cast. He said a lot had been achieved at the College in the past five years and that the school needed to build on that. "The kids coming
through now are a really good bunch and it's my job to see they get results," he said. Mr Cast attended teacher's college at Christchurch after completing a degree at Victoria University. He taught at Wairarapa College in Masterton for seven years, teaching geography and social studies. He says teaching at the Masterton school was a good start to his
teaching career, that it was well run. "It held me in good stead for other jobs," he said. He left there as head of the geography department and went to Ngata College in Ruatoria for five years. He was head of
geography and social studies there and senior master for one year. Mr Cast has been deputy principal of Ruapehu College during the two years he has been there. He has been acting principal since Ian Meredith left
for Onewhero School at the end of last term. His wife Bronwen is a maths teacher at the college and they have two children, Nicola, who is in the third form and Lindsay, who is at Ohakune Primary School.
