Inspector is Ohakune builder
Ohakune builder Rowan Eves is to be the replacement back-up building inspector for the Waimarino District Council.
At the last full council meeting the council heard that former inspector Des Sutton had left the district and thus the position was vacant. District Manager John Murrihy told the council that Mr Eves, who had been the Ohakune Borough back-up inspector, was willing to fulfil the role. Councillor Punch asked about the suitability of a builder judging other builders' work. Cr Sue said it would be difficult to find another suitably qualified person in the area who was not operating as a builder. Mr Murrihy told the council that Mr Eves'^ services would not be required very often and that he would not, of
course, be allowed to inspect his own work.
"It hasn't been a problem in the past (having working builders as inspectors)," said Mr Murrihy.
Cr Punch said he had nothing against Mr Eves personally but thought that the council could avoid awkward situations by ap-
pointing someone other than a working builder. When put to the vote the council decided Mr Eves would be suitable.
