$2950 given to sports clubs
Waimarino sports grants were allocated by a Waimarino District Council committee last week.
The Local Recreation and Sports Assessment Committee approved $2950 in grants at the meeting on Tuesday. The successful applicants were: Ohakune Pony Club (who received $100), Raetihi
Pony Club ($100), Raetihi Saturday Rugby Club ($400), Turoa Alpine Ski Club ($500), Turoa Tumblers ($1150), Waimarino A&P Show ($500) and the Waimarino Golf Club ($200). Six applications were
unsuccessful for loans and several of these did not comply with the criteria as set by the Hillary Commission. District Manager John Murrihy said the grants were for specified projects which have to meet certain criteria laid down by the commission. He said the groups had to contribute a reasonable sum themselves to their project to be
eligible for grants or loans. He said proposed facility developments were only eligible for loans, not grants, and that the committee decided not to allocate the loans because they involved small amounts. The unsuccessful applicants were to be advised as to why their applications were declined.
$1300 which was not allocated will be invested and held over for the 1989/90 year. Applications not accepted were from the Raetihi Amateur Swimming Club, Raetihi Bowling Club Inc, Raetihi Tennis Club, Raetihi Women's Bowling Club, Waimarino Girl Guide Assoc, Waimarino Smallbore Rifle Club.
