House move okayed 2nd time
A second town planning application from Hurlstone Earthmoving Limited to relocate a house to 47 Miro Street Ohakune was approved at the last set of town planning hearings.
Ari earlier application was turned down on the grounds that the build-
ing would exceed the maximum height allowed in a Residential
A zone. The n e w application was similar except for the height of the building. Plans submitted to the council showed a modified roof line, lowering the overall height to below the five metres allowed.
The second application drew one objection, from Mr B.A. Stewart on behalf of the owners of 43 Miro Street. The grounds for the objection included: that the other houses in the area were all built on site; that those houses had not been altered to become out of character with their environment; that the houses in the area enjoyed an uninterrupted view of the mountain, which could be disturbed by resiting. Among conditions recommended by the town planner was, that the house be sited so as to ensure the view of Mt Ruapehu from any of the windows of Number 43 Miro Street is not obscured by it. Councillor Sue said the council shouldn't be telling someone where to put their house, as long as it fits the limits of the town plan. The council approved the application, without the condition dictating where the house should be sited, but with the planner's other recommended conditions, including that the building be altered so that the highest point of the roof does not exceed five metres above ground level.
