SURPLUS BLUE DUCKS
Research into the Manganui a Te Ao River blue ducks shows that surplus birds may be available for relocation to other North Island habitats. / A relocation programme could ensure the survival of the unique blue duck (whio), which ' is an endangered species. There are about six whio habitats in the central North Island that each support about 40 breeding pairs.
