Ski field diesel leak checked

Turoa Skifields are working to rectify a diesel leak at their base area at the top of the Ohakune Mountain Road. A Department of Conservation officer told the Bulletin last week that Turoa had isolated the leak, which is in a permanent supply pipe leading from Tor One to the drive stations of the Movenpick and Parkland Chairlifts. He said they had shut off the supply through this pipe and laid a temporary supply line. They have also erected a small dam across the Mangawhero Stream to collect spilt diesel, so that it can be skimmed off the surface of the water. The officer said there was not a large amount of diesel spilt into the stream but enough to warrant a visit by Catchment Board officer s. He said DoC will be monitoring the situation until the problem is fixed.
