Giant Man cancelled
Poor weather forecast for the weekend coupled with poor snow conditions on Mount Ruapehu forced the cancellation of last Saturday's Atomic Ski Giant Man Competition, One of the organisers Mr Mike Wiggins, said the decision to cancel the one-day multi sport event was held off for as long as possible.
Mr Wiggins said he and others were i n touch with regional weather offices for a long range forecasts and received no good news. The last event was run in poor conditions, with some competitors coming close to hypothermia, according to Mr Wiggins. He says safety o f competitors is of premium importance.
Rocky conditions and lack of skiable snow are also contributing factors towards the decision to cancel. Cancellation of the event is a big disappointment both organisers and competitors who received notification via national radio on Friday afternoon. Mr Wiggins say they are now looking at an early August date for next year's events.
