College great outdoors

This year Forms 3 and 4 Ruapehu College students will take part in an activities week that may be the most exciting Outdoor Education Programme of any school in New Zealand.

The activities commence on November 28 after the Junior School Exams have finished, and run until December 2. The choices offered to pupils include five day treks (some incorporating fishing, hunting or training in outdoor activities), a drama production, crafts, games, cycling, racquet sports and computer activities. They cater for all interests and budgets and the staff involved have put a lot of effort into negotiating the best deals possible for trips away from school. The College would welcome any ideas or offers of assistance from the community. Please contact the Coordinator, G. Bidwell at Ruapehu College. Linking with Community College Twelve Form 4 students spent Wednesday and Thursday last week on a Link course offered by the Wanganui Regional Community College. While there they experienced a variety of crafts and trades from automotive to hot glass work to help them understand the skills involved in each trade. Inter-whanau Shooting Championship Despite appalling weather conditions the inter- whanau shooting

championship went ahead last Wednesday afternoon at the Rifle Range.

Each whanau was represented by a team of four - a boy and girl senior and a boy and girl junior. The target is usually 25m away when pupils shoot as a

club activity but because of the rain and wind Mr G. Brebner, the organiser, brought the distance down to 20 metres. Weka was the winning whanau with 176 points. The individual

shooting championship was won by Lucky Wateae with a combined total of 96/100, closely followed by Robert Grossart with 94/100.
