Electrical storm damage report

Two storms recently caused problems for the King Country Electric Power Board, when various faults were caused by high winds and lightening. The first storm hit the Ohakune area in August, with lightening blowing several llkv

fuses, then moving to National Park where the Electricorp Substation lost supply for a short time. The storm then travelled north to affect other parts of the board's area. Two weeks later high winds hit the area. Apart from damage to

equipment in the Taupo and Turangi area, a high voltage transformer kiosk on Mt Ruapehu was blown away. The transformer, which supplied the Manawatu Tramping and Skiing Club hut,

has not been found. Other problems the board has dealt with in past weeks have included ducks flying into lines in Lakes Road, Ohakune. To avoid this high voltage crossarms were changed and lengthened.
