Turner trust sends two on outdoors course

Two King Country teenagers are the first beneficiaries of the Roy Turner Family Memorial Trust. Janine Stevens of Tangiwai and Craig Flintoff from Taumarunui recently completed courses at the Outdoor Pursuits Centre, funded by the trust. The trust was insti-

gated in 1985 and aims to "sponsor young people who might otherwise not get the chance to try their hand at some of the outdoor pursuits that Roy was involved in". Roy Turner and his wife and family lost their lives in an air tragedy in the South Island in 1983. Trustee Larry Arlidge

said Roy Turner was one of the original trustees of the Outdoor Pursuits Centre and that it was very pleasing to have young people, funded by the Turner Trust, participating in the activities of the OPC. The idea for the trust began in 1985 and it was finally set up in 1986, with an initial sum from Roy's sister, Edna Teare from England followed by public donations. The trust is still asking for donations, which can be left at the Roy Turner Ski Shop at National Park, or posted to P.O. Box 1264, Taupo. Trustees are Graeme Dingle, Christine Smith, Les Cleveland and Larry Arlidge. The trust hopes to sponsor another two teenagers to OPC courses this year.
