WANGANUI PORT CONTROL SIGNED TO CONSORTIUM
Wanganui Port Limited Chairman Klas Kronqvist and Wanganui Mayor Chas Poynter last week signed the lease documents that gives control of Port Castlecliff to the consortium for five years. The consortium will pay a peppercom rental for the port, but will have to spend millions of dollars to develop the port to allow it to cater for bigger ships and more cargo. Winstone Pulp Industries, of which Mr Kronqvist is managing director, plan to ship up to 120,000 tonnes of pulp through Wanganui.
