Raetihi racer wins Giant Slalom

New Zealand Mens A team member Chris Mosaed won the Mens event in the Kiwi Lager Giant Slalom held at Turoa last week.

Mosaed, from Raetihi, won the race with a combined time of 1:14.61 seconds, 5 seconds ahead of 2nd place getter Kerry Jeffries from Whakapapa Ski Club. In 3rd place was Jacyn Bramley of Ohakune (Tasci) with a combined time of 1:19.64. The womans event was won by Kim Fuller (Tasci) with a combined time of 1:22.81 seconds. In 2nd place was Annika Haywood (Tasci) with a time of 1:23.22 seconds. Third was Merran Clarke of Christiana Ski club with 1:24.21 seconds. Snow conditions for the first run were very hard and demanded a strong technique for the racers to successfully complete the course. By the time the second run was due to start however the snow conditions had softened encouraging the racers to turn in faster times. The Kiwi Lager G.S. was contested on the

Girdlestone course at Turoa. The sarne course used during the B . P . Europa FIS Ski Series for the FIS G.S. event. The event was to be a super G race, but the conditions at Turoa for the weekend made it too dangerous to run such a race. Super G races achieve speeds between giant slalom level and down hill racing.
