Pipiriki tourist project

A major tourist development for the tiny river settlemcnt o f Pipiriki is about to go ahcad. A Wellington firm plans to build a number of lodges as wcll a s caravan and campcr van sites on the eastern bank of the Whanganui Rivcr, about two kilomctres south of Pipiriki. Dcvclopers are optimistic that ihe job will bc complctcd in under 18 months. Plans also include transporting t w o houses from Wellington to be placed on site for altcration and modification into special units. The devclopment will be divided into two sections on a soon-to-bc-built access road off the existing River Road. About 10 units will be constructed on the lower site which will include caravan sitcs. Stage Two of the devclopment includes the construclion of more middlc-rangc tourist accommodation on the sccond scction.
