ART AWARDS A SUCCESS, "AS ALWAYS"

This year's Ohakune Art Awards has so far been deemed a quiet success, with a fair number of people viewing the work displayed. Saies of paintings were a little down on last year, said one of the organisers, Mrs Ellen Gould, with less locals buying paintings. However, she said the judge and the artists were very pleased with the show. Next year's art awards, also to be sponsored in the main by Mrs Elizabeth Baigent, will be held at a different venue. Mrs Gould said up until now the Ohakune Club has been very generous in loaning the rooms, but with the opening of the club restaurant, it would no longer be possible.
