Fertilizer price reductions
Farmers Fertiliser Ltd, the fertiliser subsidiary of FERNZ Corporation Ltd, has announced price reductions on virtually all fertilisers for the second time in 12 months. The reductions in August 1987 were primarily the result of the high value of the New Zealand dollar which was reflected in lower imported raw material costs. This year the high dollar value was partially offset by increased overseas raw material prices and a huge increase in shipping rates. However, in an en-
deavour to assist farmers to maintain levels of productivity the Company has decided to absorb much of these increased costs. The Company is concerned that farm pr o d u c tivity has dropped at an alarming rate in recent years, a drop it believes needs to be rapidly reversed and it is pleased to play its part to assist farmers to halt this trend. Mr Jim Galloway, Technical Field Advisor, Farmers Fertiliser Ltd, commented on a recent nationwide survey conducted by an independant market research company which
showed overwhelming demand for locally manufactured super-phosphate-based products. This support has assisted Farmers Fertiliser Ltd to keep overheads at its works as low as possible, thereby contributing to the price reductions.
