ONE GOOD TURN DESERVES ANOTHER, AND ANOTHER....
How's this for an unusual chain of events: Ruapehu '88 staff Rita Belinda and Rob managed to finish last week's edition of the paper by 12.30pm Thursday night, by which time their cars were well and truly frosted over. Nothing unusual there, but Belinda found her upholstered roller skate was low on petrol, so Rita, who had offered to drop the artwork off to our courier, Gordon, and Rob off home, also offered to follow Belinda home to Raetihi, just in case her Tonka toy ran out of juice. Rita and Rob arrived at courier Gordon's abode, dropped off the artwork (to be taken to the printers in Wanganui first thing next morning) but found Gordon's vehicle locked with its inside light on (Gordon was sound asleep). Sooo Rob rustled round for a screwdriver to get into the said vehicle, (yep, it's one of those types) but had to make do with a spoon. Mission accomplished, Rita dropped off Rob and followed Belinda - got to Webb's corner in Raetihi where the said skateboard ran out of weetbix. Rita ran Belinda the last bit home, then turned around, good deeds done, to head for home. BUT, back at Webb's corner were three gentlemen, well dressed, mid thirties, looking lost. "Need any help?" asked Rita looking for more good work. "Er, no we're just filling up our water pistols," came the reply! DON'T DRINK AND DRIVE? Just to prove there is interaction between Whakapapa and Turoa sides of the mountain comes this wee tale: Ruapehu Alpine Lifts marketing manager Scolt Lee trotted round to Ohakune recently to take some Ski FM staff to dinner, and we assumc a good time was had by all. Next morning the radio rang RAL for their ski report - no Scott Lee! They did manage to have the report dictated to them however. Ski FM's Robert Te Moana knew where our man was hiding. He was a house guest at Turoa Lodge! (must have been a good night!) Mr Te raced round to the lodge so Scott could read the report. He burst into the room where Scott lay sleeping, announcing: "Here! you're on air!" No one would have been the wiser, if it weren't for GOSSIP!
