New vet service a huge success

The visiting vet scheme was introduced to Waiouru on Thursday, August 8. This scheme was introduced to provide a monthly service to all pet owners in Waiouru, including innoculations, consultations and advice, suturing and removal of sutures. Transport is also available at the clinic for emergencies. Major surgery will not be performed in Waiouru, and instead will be referred to Taihape. The Army made a venue available for the first clinic at 2 Patterson Place, Waiouru. This service was a combined effort of: Army Training Group, Waiouru, Vet Paul Hughes from Taihape, Dog Ranger Marie Cockburn from Waiouru, Hydatis Control Viv Simmons from Taihape, Rangitiki Branch of the SPCA and Maggie Ball and Karen Worthington who volunteered their services for the clinic. The clinic started at 10am and the vet re-

ported visits by 26 animals broken down as 15 dogs and 11 cats. Three dogs and five cats were there for full consultations and not innoculations. The clinic finished at lpm. If the clinic is not used the service will end and will not be recommenced. The next clinic will be held in early October, when a permanent venue has been confirmed.
