Tourism consultant visits

A consultant with the Tourism Human Resources Development Unit visited Whakapapa Skifield this week. The Unit, set up to study Workforce Planning in Tourism, are preparing a report for the Minister of Tourism on Labour needs of the industry. After a meeting with RAL's General Manager and Marketing Manager the consultant, Tony Thorn, visited the skifield to see employment conditions for himself. Mr Thorn was particularly impressed with RAL's commitment to staff training. Other areas of interest M r Thorn looked at were staff accommodation, future training needs, seasonal employment and local body regulations that affect tourism development. The Unit will supply information to the industry in October with the study due for completion in March 1987.
