Four Wellington hunters overdue in the Whanganui National Park were found safe and well on Monday. The hunters travelled up river to Pipiriki last

Friday and intended to hunt in the John Coull ' Hutt area for wild pigs. Wanganui Police received notification that the party was overdue at 7pm on Sunday and

search and rescue personnel were notified to check the area. Park staff at Pipiriki said the party were located at Tieke Hut, approximately 21 kilometres upriver from Pipiriki Ranger Station, at 9.30am, Monday. The hunters were found by a group of associates from Wanganui and no search and rescue personnel were involved. The men were stranded at the hut overnight when their boat sank. The group plan to return this weekend to recover it. A boat belonging to Pipiriki Jetboat Tours was used to transport the group back t o Pipiriki.
