Soccer showdown

The stage is now set for the soccer showdown of the "Furniture House League". Ruapehu College share top position with Turangi Wanderers and both have one fixture left to end the season, playing each other. The game, venued for Turangi Park on Sunday, August 21, should prove to be a grande finale as both sides will be desperate to win.

Ruapehu College beat the Rangipo Prison first team last Sunday by 7:2. The scorers for College were; Duane Dixon (3), Junior Kaata (2), Nigel McDonaugh (1) and Jason Langdon (1). Ten metres away on the second pitch at Turangi Park, the "Wanderers" entertained Cadets A. It was a light game as Turangi had to come back from a

penalty against them, but finally won by 3:1. Ruapehu return to Turangi Park next week to play Turangi Wanderers. Both sides are equal on points so the game will decide the cliampionship, and if Ruapehu are successful will be a major triumph as this is the first season Ruapehu have competed in the adult league and Ruapehu are the vouneest side.
