Difficult conditions on last day's FIS racing

Norwegian Ole Furuseth, skiing in cold, blustery conditions, took first place in the second slalom event at the BP-Europa FIS Series at Turoa, Mt Ruapehu, last Friday.

His winning time, 1:24.83, wa s good for the conditions which included 10cm of fresh snow and a very strong north-easterly. Second place went to Robert Ormsby (USA) at 1:35.23 followed by team-mate Tiger Shaw at 1:35.57. The first Kiwi home was Mattias Hubrich in eighth place (1:39.95) followed by team-mate Chris Mosaed in ninth place (1:40.48). New Zealand hopeful Simon Wi Rutene completed a disappointing FIS series failing to complete the slalom after a fall on the first run. Turoa marketing manager Andy Chapman praised the competitive spirit of the eight participating t e a m s throughout the series.
