Ohakune skier awaits licence

Local disabled skier Patrick Cooper, due to travel overseas i n November for race training, is still awaiting a licence from the New Zealand Ski Association that will grant him entrance into overseas FIS Series races.

He has just been competing in the BP-Eu-ropa FIS Series a t Turoa. Patrick says it is "politics" that require him to have an FIS licence and so enter in competition in the United States and Canada. He has his sights set on the American and

Canadian Nationals in March next year and is confident that with fulltime skiing and training at Winter Park in Colorado leading up to the event, his performance will be much improved. Patrick has spent three consecutive summers at Winter Park,

where he says race training facilities for disabled skiers are the world's best. He is working towards a minimum budget of $10,000 for six month's intensive ski training, but meanwhile has been performing well against tough competition in the FIS Series at Turoa.
