Top boot award for Whakapapa boss
Staff morale took an uphill turn at Whakapapa this week with a little frivolity and food for the team. General manager Dave Mazey decided on M o n day that it was time to celebrate the
good season and thank the staff for their good work. So he booked out the Discovery Lodge and took them out for dinner on Wednesday night ... all 80 members of the team! Dave's leadership
style is obviously very popular, because the highlight of the evening was the presentation of a special award in the form of an old boot painted i n RAL's blue and black colour scheme.
Marketing manager Scott Lee says it was titled "The Bloody Good Boss Award" and the citation is for a leader like Buck
Shelford, who leads from the front and who kicks ass but is always fair! The staff held numer-
ous other presentations giving out left-over promotional prizes and sponsor's products to almost everyone. Fortunately Thursday
was virtually closed on the mountain due to bad weather, so that staff had plenty of time to recover from their midseason morale booster.
