Girls can do anything
On Wednesday 12 fourth form Ruapehu College girls went to Wanganui Community College to take part in 'Try a Trade Day'. The aim of the day was to provide an opportunity for y o u n g women to gain knowledge and sorae experience of non-traditional trades for women. It was targetted at
fourth form girls to encourage them to keep their options open by selecting scientific and technical subjects in form five. The choice of courses included electrical, upholstery, painting and paper hanging, automotive engineering, signwriting, horticulture and welding. Pupils felt the day had been a worthwhile experience. sixth formers about courses being offered at Wellington's Central Institute of ogyHe recounted some stories of his youth and his time as an international rugby player, to encourage students to look ahead to the future and not simply go into any unskilled position. His talk was both hu-
morous and informative and was enjoyed by all who heard him. Matheletics An inter-whanau Maths competition was held at Ruapehu College on Friday, July 29. Teams from all years and whanaus competed against each other to answer questions that required Mathematical ability and logical thought processes. The competition was close throughout. Final result was: First Huia, second Weka, third Tui, fourth Kiwi.
