A 'felicitous decision'

With others I am surprised at the endeavour by Councillors K. Summerhays and D. Bennett of the Raetihi and Rural wards respectively to reopen the question of water treatment for Ohakune. It was good then to read of the stern opposition of the Ohakune ward councillors to such an unwarranted intrusion into a matter clearly

domestic to the former borough, settled and closed. Those who followed developments at the time will be aware that the treatment of water with ultra-violet light was thoroughly investigated and contrasted with chlorine in each of the areas of efficiency, economy, simplicity and reliability,

as well as in palatability of the treated water. In every area UV won hands down. Filtration equipment also is to be installed. In retrospect it is gratifying to see how the last and final council of the borough of Ohakune marked its outgoing with s o felicitous a decision.

Ratepayer

During the early evening of Friday, July 29, our three beautiful sheep were savagely mauled by a young dog while grazing on a section in Queen Street, Raetihi. Their deaths have distressed our family a great deal. With the lambing season upon us again, I would like to ask all dog owners to ensure that their dogs are under control at all times.
