Welcome to Turoa!
Welcome to the BP Europa FIS Turoa series! Turoa is a young ski area. In just our 10th year of operation, market acceptance has never let us relax from development, but has kept us advancing, improving, growing. In fact, we are now the second largest ski area in New Zealand. We now are preparing to face the challenge of International racing. It is my company's wish to offer our contribution to the growth and support to the sport of competitive skiing, not just at Turoa, but for New Zealand, located as we are; in the Southern Hemisphere. To the competitors, coaches and support' personnel, on behalf of my company I extend a welcome, and thank you for supporting our first major foray into International racing. And in conveying this welcome, I give you my personal guarantee, that the same degree of professionalism with which we built Turoa, has been, and will continue to be, committed
not only to this series, but to future events leading hopefully to World Cup series races first in 1991. At this time, w e should gratefully acknowledge the support given to not only this series of races but for providing the platform for the future, from the New Zealand Government, and from our Sponsors. The New Zealand Government has publicly declared an objective of seeking a co-ordinated development of the New Zealand Alpine Sport industry, and to this end formed and funded the Ministerial Alpine Task Force. This Task Force has played a major contributing role to this series. Sponsorships also have paid a major part to a level never before experienced in ski racing in New Zealand. To those sponsors we are grateful and look forward to a continuing partnership in this role. Good luck to you Competitors. Above all, enjoy your stay with us and have fun.
