Charlie's Angels' dad wins
Charles Mareikura is a top dad according to his five daughters. He's also the Waimarino district's new Father of the Year. He won the title at the Ohakune Kindergarten Association's new competition last week. The function was a roaring success with Charles, a local Telecom employee and
highly-qualified judo and karate instructor, emerging a clear winner from the other seven entrants. Charles was t h e popular vote not just with the two official judges, Mrs Carol Wilson and Mr John Woods, but also with the crowd of about 100 people who attended the contest at the Hot Lava Nightclub. The father of three girls and two boys
whom he dcscribed as "Charlic's Angels", the Father of the Year had to excel at a number of events to score his 16point lead over the second-equal placcgetters Ken Palmer, a local buildcr, and Brian Wilson, an Ohakune police constable. Fourth place wcnt to Winstones employee Vince Pakinga. The crowd at the contest was entcrtaincd by the eight fathcrs as
they performed such incredible tasks a s hanging out the washing, filling a brandysnap with cream, folding nappies, sewing on a button and separating egg whitcs from yokes. Needless to say, it was a lot of fun and while raising funds for the kindergarten. Event organiser Mary Scully said the competition could become an annual event with more community involvement.
