One truck tender
Only one tender was received by the Waimarino District Council for the replacement of a work gang vehicle. The council's works and reserves committee recommended that the tender be accepted after hearing from district engineer Don Sattler that the vehicle met the council's requirements and was close to the price he had estimated for the replacement. The cost of the new truck is $32,000. The tender was from H.E.Webb Ltd o f Raetihi. Some councillors were concerned that only one tender had been received and suggested tenders be called again. Mr Sattler said there was only one other type of vehicle suitable. The truck is designed to carry a team o f workers inside the cab,
with their tools carried on the tray. At present the team is travelling to their work site in a rental van, with their tools carried on a separate truck. Mr Sattler told the meeting that tools were not allowed to be transported in a cab with passengers. A discussion on the colour of the vehicle followed. Cr Sue said all the council vehicles should be the same colour but Cr Compton disagreed. "No No! Let's leave them in the colours they are. Cosmopolitan colours to represent the cosmopolitan nature of our various wards," said Cr Compton. Mr Sattler asked the committee if the council wanted the truck painted in any specific colour. He said the truck was supplied white with any other choice of colour costing an extra $2000.
