SWANS ON THE LOOSE

Two mute swans that disappeared when they "became amorous and flew away in search of a good time" recently are being sought by Ducks Unlimited. Ducks Unlimited is an organisation charged with the restoration, maintenance and preservation of water fowl and their habitat in New Zealand. The two male large white swans were put on Roke's Dam, Lakes Road two years ago by the group as part of a programme to build up the population of the swans. Anyone who has seen the swans is asked to contact Dianne Pritt at the Ohakune wine shop, or phone 58016. The last sighting of the swans was at Karioi. Ducks Unlimited want to retum the swans to the dam so they can pair them up with females from a South Island breeding programme.
