Rotary change
Sixty-four Rotarians and invited guests attended the recent Rotary changeover night, held at the Hobbit Restaurant. Rotarians farewelled out-going president Colin Turner and welcomed new president Hira Parata. New officers for the coming year are Arthur Berridge (secretary), Tony Mosaed and Gavin J o n e s (programme), Ross Brown (sergeant), Bruce Wilde (Rotary bulletin editor), Bill Peach (director of club services), Ian Penny (community service) and David Seifert (vocational international). A number of former members returned to the Waimarino for the evening. Guests of Rotary included Lions president Ian Strachan and Betty Strachan, Waimarino Mayor Garrick Work-
man and district governor's representative Robert Watt. Retiring president Colin Turner thanked members for their participation in a most successful year for Rotary. He outlined various fundraising projects undertaken by Rotary during the year and commented that there was no lack of activity. Funds raised total around $6000. Organisations to benefit from these funds include Polio Plus - a world-wide Rotary project to immunise in excess of 300 million children against Polio, Dyptheria and other debilitating diseases; Cyclone Bola victims on the East Coast; the Plunket Society; Wanganui's Ozanam Villa, and local families. This year a Waimarino teenager was sponsored by Rotary to sail on the Spirit of Adventure.
