Ohakune badminton news
On Saturday July 9 members from the Ohakune Badminton Club competed in the Taihape Club Tournament. All players from the club did very well, with each member winning something. Results: B Grade: Kenneth Young and partner winners of mens doubles; Kenneth & Kay Young runners-up mixed doubles; Kay Young winner of ladies plate singles; Jocelyn Cranston and Kay Young winners of ladies doubles. C Grade : Eileen Clarke ladies singles winner; Eileen ,and partner ladies doubles winners; C o 1 i n Cranston mens singles runner-up; Colin
Cranston and partner winners of mixed doubles. Interclub has been underway for sometime now with the Ohakune C1 team leading the regional grade competition by two matches up at the moment. The team consists of Colin Cranston, Garry Deadman, Eileen Clarke, Marie Cranston, reserve Lee-Anne Beavis. The B Grade team played their first game against Taihape B 1 who were winners in last year's competition for the Wanganui region. The Ohakune members played very well and managed to win four games each, but
were unlucky not to win on a countback of points. Kay Cranston was showing promising form in beating her partner Coral Thomas 21-18. This is the first time that Coral has been beaten in seven years. Results were: Ohakune players appear first. Kay Cranston 21 Coral Thomas 18; Jocelyn Cranston 2 1 Jean 7; Kay and Jocelyn 21 Jean and Coral 10; Kenneth 21 Kevin 23; Michael Edwards 3 Shane 21; Michael and Kenneth 3 Shane and Kevin 21; Kay and Kenneth 21 Coral and Kevin 18; Michael and Jos 7 Jean and Shane 21.
