Deserved win for ROC soccer

Ruapehu College soccer side had a deserved win when they beat the Taumarunui A team last Sunday in what was a hard fought game. The College came out on top by two goals to one in a very tense match. Taumarunui had the home advantage but after 30 minutes were put one down when Brendan Gammeter controlled a wide shot in the six yard area and turned to shoot past the out of position goalkeeper. After half-time Taumarunui played with more confidence and continually pressurised the College defence. After 25 minutes a long

kick forward was headed on to beat the Ruapehu backs. Taumarunui's number 10 broke free to easily score past the stranded coach/keeper John McCartney to equalise. Taumarunui kept on a high note but could not stop Brendan Gammeter's solo run from halfway, beating several players including the keeper to shoot home the winner from an acute angle. Taumarunui kept up the pressure in the hope of equalising again but time ran out for the home side. Winners Ruapehu College can gain from their present third from top position.
