Buildings stay with camp
Ownership of the buildings at the Rochfort Park Caravan site was the subject of debate at the last Waimarino District Council Finance and Administration Committee meeting. District Manager John Murrihy told the committee that the Rochfort Park Caravan site lessee wished to have the lease transferred to his name, having bought out his former partner. He said the lessee wanted verification of the condition in the lease concerning 'hard surfacing' part of the land. Also, Mr Murrihy asked the committee to decide whether i t
wanted to insist that the buildings on the site revert to the council at the end of the lease, saying the lessee had bought the buildings. "He (Mr Gillespie) tells me he bought them from AHI (Turoa Skifields)," Mr Murrihy told the council. "I feel very strongly that, while we can agree to the hard surfacing being as it is, I would like to see something there on landscaping aud that the buildings should remain," said C r Thompson. Cr Thompson said if the buildings were ever taken away council would have to provide new facilities for the caravan site to continue
to operate. "The other thing we don't know is what the purchase price was," said Cr Griffiths. Cr Gould asked if council could simply ask Turoa Skifields what the present lessee paid them for the buildings. Mr Thompson said the price was irrelevant. He said: "We agreed with Mr Gillespie.. .the buildings are there for his use as long as they are there, I do feel they should stay with the land." The committee decided to recommend the old lease be transferred to Mr Gillespie defining 'hard surface' in terms of the caravan park as metalled and in good condition.
