Kohanga Reo to appear on TV1

Television One's Kohanga Reo are to run a series programmes featuring Ohakune Kohanga Reo children.

During the May school holidays, the children from Manu Korero, Kohanga Reo at Maungarongo Marae, spent a week in Auckland making 15, eight minute programmes for the Kohanga Reo T V series. Nine adults and sixteen children participated at different times in Karakia (prayer), Waiata (song), poi and haka. Children aged from four to eleven years old participated. The older children spent their pre-school years at Kohanga Reo and continue their learning each afternoon when they return to the Marae for an hour. The young chil- 1

Their teacher Biddy Mareikura had several adults to accompany her and they helped the children in their presentation and preparation for each programme. They were Matiu Mareikura, Vera Wilson, Colleen Hansen, Gabrielle, Corinna and Aurora Mareikura and Maurea Akapita.

After three days' hard work the taping was complete. This was all done in the Wharepuni at Auckland University. The group stayed on campus where they were well looked after. The reward for this hard work was to spend Thursday sightseeing in Auckland before flying back to Wanganui on the Friday. The programmes are scheduled to screen on Television One from July 13 at 11.45am.
