Waimarino senior rugby 'tops'

Raetihi is close to winning the third division qualifying rugby title after their 70 point thrashing of Marist C on Saturday at home.

Captam Steve Gordon touched down five times with the other nine tries spread amongst the team. The other tries came from R Edmonds, R. Herewini (2), J. Renata, M . Tangaroa, C. Bennett, P. Trow, N Ruki and D. Wilcox. G Hipango kicked seven conversions and a penalty. The Marist score

came from a drop goal by K Thomas. Waiouru vs Wanganui Pirates Waiouru also look certain to move into the second division after they walloped Wanganui Pirates 66-4 in Wanganui on Saturday. Tries came from Rick Tawhiri (5), J Fortes (3), J Winwood, G Baker, J Van der Poel, G Scruton. P Lloyd

kicked nine conversions. The Wanganui points came from a try by C. Tamou. Ohakune Karioi vs Ratana Ohakune Karioi Seniors played well to hold Ratana to a 9-0 lead at the end of the first half of their Saturday rugby game. Unfortunately Ohakune Karioi took the wrong options in the second half and let Ratana go level up to injury time with a con-

verted try and a penalty. Ratana made a bad mistake with an infringement in injury time enabling Lochlan Harding to kick a penalty and take Ohakune Karioi to 1 2 points over Ratana's nine. Lewis Docherty touched down the only try of the game for Ratana, cleverly taking the blind side. Bruce Cranston was welcomed back to the Ohakune Karioi side. He was a "tower o f

strength" playing lock. Kellich Haiding played a fine game, shifted yet again, this time to the flank. Lachlan Harding kicked all of the Ohakune Karioi points, with three penalties and a drop goal. A regular Ohakune Karioi supporter reports that the side would like to see more spectators at their games. They feel there is a lack of sideline encouragement and, while they aren't doing badly, more support would help.
