Fast track planning?
A town planning hearing was conducted in double-quick time by the Waimarino District Council on June 8. M and M Leef had applied to build a second unit on their Manuka St, Ohakune
site, exceeding the maximum people density requirements b y two people. There were no objections to the application and councillors were in general agreement that the application should be approved, because the building could be easily made compatible with the surrounding neighbourhood. At the same town planning committee meeting an application to have a condition imposed on an earlier approved rural subdivision of a farm was heard. The condition was that the proposed access to two subdivided lots be formed and metaled. Reasons for the objection given were that the land in question was being farmed only and a formed a sealed road was not necessary for farm vehicle access. No residential building was planned for the blocks. The committee ap-
proved the deletion of the condition on the grounds that if at a later stage the land owners applied to build on the sections the rights of way would have to be upgraded to be allowed a building permit.
