Account questioned

An account for the Bay Collection Agency was questioned at a recent District Council finance and Administration committee meeting. The agency was the debt collector for the Rural and Raetihi wards before amalgamation, and the District Council had paid a bill of $1707.60 for their services last month, which a councillor queried. The councillor asked why the new council had to be responsible for accounts incurred by the old county and boroughs. The district manager said those type of bills were now all paid out of the one fund and would probably balance out among the three wards. "It might appear that Ohakune is loosing but, for example, the

interest eamed by the county funds from before amalgamation offsets those costs," said Mr Murrihy.
