Bull prices stay low
Prices were low at this year's Okahu Bull Sale, Valley Road, Raetihi. Twenty-six rising 2year old Polled Hereford bulls including three proven sires, bred by Pat and Kelly O'Neill, went under the auction - eer's hammer. Bidding earlier on in the auction began at $1,200 and later dropped to $1,000. Reserve prices were not met on a number of the beasts offered. Mr O'Neill commented that prices were similar to those attained at last year's sale, but are greatly reduced from previous years. A comment made frequently by auctioneer's Wrightson Dalgety, was prices were "not fair comment" for the quality of bulls up for sale.
The best price was $2600 obtained for a well conditioned bull, purchased by J.B. Donald Partnership o f TeKuiti. Two of the proven sires, 'Okahu Super Pilot' and 'Okahu Monarch' - both from exceptional stock, were passed in during the auction. A number of the unsold animals were purchased at the comple'tion of the auction.
