Team search at Karioi
Waimarino Search and Rescue members and local police joined forces in a mock search at the weekend. Although only an exercise, searchers and search co-ordinators conducted the rescue of two local hunters on Saturday, in deadly eamest, as practice for a real event. The rescue was an exercise in familiarising individuals with their roles in real-life rescues and was also practice for the men at working in teams. The exercises are held annually to ensure that those people involved in searches
are clear in their responsibilities when crises occur. Police Liaison Officers B'.n Jones and John I '.tser assisted sc.im I) co-ordinators at itn rombined commun nation base and search head quarters set
up at Karioi. Mr Jones has a> sisted in 500 real-lih rescues and recovcriey including the recoven of bodies from the Erc bus disaster. The weck end search was a training exercise for Constable Fraser.
