FLAMING COUNCILLORS
Fireman, Power Board worker and councillor Bruce Thompson found himself in an unusual situation at a recent council meeting. Ruapehu South Business Association had asked council for their blessing to light a bonfire on council land at the welcome of the Kiwi Lager Ski Express at Queens Birthday weekend. The association said they would ask the firebrigade, the power board and the police for permission to light the bonfire. Another councillor pointed out that Bruce was the man on the spot on two counts, and asked if he thought it would beOK. Mr Thompson at first seemed reluctant to say much, but then moved the bonfire be approved by council! A case of drumming up business? Cr John Compton said he thought Bruce's motion was "an inflammatory statement"!
