No fight from smokers

Smokers lost another battle recently, at the Waimarino District Council meeting May 30, and they hardly put up a fight. Councillor Peggy Frew moved that there be no smoking in the council meeting room either during meetings or coffee breaks. The only murmer of protest from the smoking camp came from Cr Errol Sue who said taciturnly: "I can smell bad feet too." His ally, Cr John Compton tried to make his vote against the motion count for more by bellowing a loud "NO!" across the table, but his protest was a puff against thunder. The motion was carried.
