Fine day's gym
The 1988 gymnastic competitive season started on Saturday May 28 at Feilding when the Junior girls competed in an interclub competition for Grades 8-4.
Jessie Pope, Denise Waerea, Kerri Allerby and Kelly Swain began their first ever competition with some apprehension but by the end of the day declared "it had been fun" when presented with a bag of goodies for participation. Especially so for Kelly Swain who came second on beam and bar and first on vault and finished first overall in Grade 8. Mandy Pearson competing in Grade 6 came second on floor and worked consistently on all the other apparatus to finish third overall. Stanella Ngarewa after having a disappointing bar exercise applied herself well to come second on vault and third on beam in Grade 4.
It was a fine day's gymnastics from the junior girls. The Turoa Tumblers' senior gymnasts Warwick Hays, Shaun McLean and Carys Hubbard compete in the Wellington O p e n Champs this coming weekend. Their season will finish at the Nationals at Christchurch in September. On Saturday June 23
the club will hold an Open Gymnastic Session between 2-4pm in aid of telethon for all interested and our display squad will perform in Waiouru on Sunday morning. Saturday July 2 will be the official 10th Anniversary of the Turoa Tumblers gym club and this will be celebrated with an open morning for past and present members followed by 'Press-Up Pete's' 10th birthday party with a reunion dinner in the evening.
