New Park staff
The Department of Conservation's Whakapapa sub-dis-trict has four new full-time staff members this year. Simon Noble, a Canterbury University graduate, is Tongariro National Park's Senior Park Interpreter having taken over the position from Lynette Hartley. Originally from Cambridge, Mr Noble studied geography at Waikato University, then at Canterbury University. He graduated with Masters Degrees in Science and Business Management. Mr Noble describes his position as that of a link between the park and the public. During the summer months the job includes conducting walks and talks within the Tongariro National Park. In winter it includes the formulation of the Tongariro Journal. His job also is to provide the public with in-
formation, collation of weather records, plus design and maintenance of park displays. Robbie Field, originally from Wellington, is a storeman for the Department of Conservation. A father oi' seven, he worked for the THC Chateau Tongariro for 2 1/2 years prior to the position. Paul Edhouse is a maintenance carpenter. From Taumarunui, he worked as a private contractor and started with the Department in January. The fourth staff member is Penny Field, an Adminstration Assistant at the Whakapapa Information Office. Ms Field worked in the park as a volunteer during the Summer Nature Programme while at the Chateau Tongariro as a receptionist. She holds an Honours degree in micro-biology.
