These girls play for real!

Pattersen Field was the venue for a roundrobin tournament of school-boy rugby on the weekend. Twenty-seven teams from all age groups and skill levels turned out, from Taihape, Ohakune, Raetihi and Waiouru. Competitive rugby is no longer a sport competed solely by males, as Raetihi Intermediate's team indicated. The three female team members gave Waiouru Intermediate players a run for their money and scored some convincing tries. Waiouru Intermediate lost their star player when Daniel Isherwood 11, was removed from the field and taken to hospital with a dislocated thumb. The injury however, did not mean he would miss his opportunity to
be ball-boy for the New Zealand Army versus British Combined Services played at Linton
on Sunday. Daniel carried out his duty onehanded, thumb brace and all!
After the success of the weekend teams indicated their keeness to participate in round-
robin tournaments on a regular basis. Their next tournament is in two weeks.
