'Open all hours'

Running a dairy, restaurant and picture framing service would be more than enough for most people. Mr Ashley Watt does all this and owns an art gallery in Ohakune as well. He built Parkland Gallery eight years ago, above the restaurant. The small gallery regularly has exhibitions by Waimarino district groups and some outsiders. The gallery sells most of the work on behalf of the artists. Mr Watt says the gallery is a hobby. He sells some of his own work, mostly oil paintings, through it. The gallery is open to whatever people want to exhibit. "There are different trends. Pottery was the main thing a while ago, and now it's probably something else - it's a 'flavour of the month' sort of thing." Both locals and tourists visit the gallery, Mr Watt says.
